The BMW Art Car has been a unique and captivating part of popular culture and BMW heritage since 1975 when French race car driver Hervé Poulain suggested a collaborative project that would bring world renowned artists together with BMW’s remarkable machines. This tradition has been carried on throughout the decades, with the most recent BMW Art Car having been designed by neo-pop artist Jeff Koons and actually raced in the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans.
Today, the entire BMW Art Car collection resides in Munich, Germany and rarely are any of the works seen in America. One of the most recognizable and legendary of all BMW Art Cars is the BMW M1 race car hand painted by the iconic Andy Warhol in 1979. Fortunately for us, the Andy Warhol M1 will be on display right here in Pittsburgh at the Andy Warhol museum until May 13. This is a excellent chance to experience this stunning combination of art and automotive history here in our beautiful city!
P&W BMW wants to take this wonderful opportunity and make it even more fun! We want you to take a photo of yourself with the Andy Warhol BMW M1 and post it to our Facebook page. Simply post your pic and we’ll give you a 25% Off coupon for any BMW Accessory or Lifestyle item you choose! Our goal is to get as many people as possible out to see this marvelous example of the intersection between art and engineering.
The exhibition, entitled: “Cars and Art: American Icons” , is located on the 7th floor of the Andy Warhol Museum and runs until May 13, 2012. Be sure to take an afternoon and check out the wonderful artwork. And, don’t forget to post your photos!
