BMW Art Car in Pittsburgh at the Andy Warhol Museum

Andy Warhol painting a BMW M1 in 1979The BMW Art Car has been a unique and captivating part of popular culture and BMW heritage since 1975 when French race car driver Hervé Poulain suggested a collaborative project that would bring world renowned artists together with BMW’s remarkable machines. This tradition has been carried on throughout the decades, with the most recent BMW Art Car having been designed by neo-pop artist Jeff Koons and actually raced in the 2010 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Today, the entire BMW Art Car collection resides in Munich, Germany and rarely are any of the works seen in America. One of the most recognizable and legendary of all BMW Art Cars is the BMW M1 race car hand painted by the iconic Andy Warhol in 1979.  Fortunately for us, the Andy Warhol M1 will be on display right here in Pittsburgh at the Andy Warhol museum until May 13. This is a excellent chance to experience this stunning combination of art and automotive history here in our beautiful city!
